Hermes, the fruit of the love of Zeus and a nymph, is born in a gloomy cave. The day of his birth, he invents the lyre, then decides to steal 50 cows from his half brother, Apollo, with whom he is in rivalry. He reconciles himself with Apollo, and with his help finds a place, far from the gloomy cave, on mount Olympus the abode of the Greek gods.
